How can I cut 2 or 3 strokes off of my golf round?

Im really close to making my varsity golf team and need an idea to lower my score by 2 or 3 shots. Any suggestions? How can I cut 2 or 3 strokes off of my golf round?I'll probably sound like a broken record since many already stated it, but chipping and putting is the fastest way to cut strokes off of your round. Scorecards don't care how you make par, so you don't have to get the traditional par where you hit a nice drive, hit green, and two putt. You can block it right, punch next to the bunker, chip close, and drain that putt for a par!

So, I agree with the rest. Work on your chipping and putting. There are a ton of practice styles out there so you have to choose the type that works best for you. My two favorite are the following:

1) Find a straight line on the practice green and make ten putts(in a row) from 6 inches and move it another 6 inches away(now at 1 foot) and make ten more putts in a row. Keep moving 6 inches as you make another ten in a row. However, if you miss any, you start back from the very beginning! This can take hours, but it's effective practice.(take breaks as your back may get sore) The goal of this is to give you the confidence at a certain distance when putting. This drill has given me a comfort radius of about 12 feet. Sure I don't always cash it in from 12 feet, but I do make a lot. How does this benefit me? Well, I pretend there is an imaginary circle around the cup when I play, so when I'm chipping, I'm trying to get it into that 12 foot radius. If I can get it in that "circle zone," I know I have a great chance for par.

2) This is one of my favorite games on the golf course(do it later in the day when there are less people) Go to a hole on the course and drop 10 balls all around the green from various distances up to 40 yards. You chip all ten balls on the green and then putt them all in. With ten golf balls, your goal is to get every ball in the hole in a total of 20 strokes or less. In other words, your main goal is to get every ball up and down as if you were trying to save par. 20 strokes or less is probably too difficult at first, so try give yourself some leeway and try to get all 10 balls in 25 strokes or under(converting 5 pars out of 10 golf balls!)

Don't bump the ball at all. Play all 10 balls as they lie. This will help simulate a realistic lie when you play a real round.

Here is the great secret about chipping and putting at your level(the highschool level) This will not only help you shave your strokes, but it's very possible that it will add a stroke or two to your opponents score(in this case, your teammates who are trying to take your varsity spot!)

Lots of highschool players still play their competition rather than the golf course. So, in your foursome, if they see you having a shaky day, yet you are still keeping up with them(or beatin them) because you keep getting up and down for pars, it's possible they will start to press and will make mistakes!

Other than the obvious suggestion of working on your shortgame. Who can't use more work on that? But if you aren't close to the green it's hard to take advantage of that part of your game.

So work on your "Game management."

Nearly everyone faces several shots a round where they need a long shot to reach the green that inevitably leaves them in a bad or worse position, and I always want to suggest laying up or picking a mid-iron and leaving themselves a short iron or wedge to the green than having to rely on digging it out of the junk. How can I cut 2 or 3 strokes off of my golf round?Chip em' closer and putt like a pro.

Get out in the fairway and sacrifice the distance to save par or bogey.

Chip em' closer and putt like a pro.

Don't reach for your driver, if you haven't hit a fairway in the last 3 holes.

Chip em' closer and putt like a pro.

Have a good meal before you go out, don't get intoxicated the night before or during your game, modify your caffeine and stimulants.

Don't play mind games with yourself, every shot has a purpose, focus on every single shot and stay focused until the game is over....don't look at your score, don't think about the last hole, or the next. Don't assume birdie or par or think that any hole is a given, it kills your focus and lets your guard down. Don't get too excited about your game if it's going great, and don't get frustrated if you look like you've never picked up a golf club before. STAY FOCUSED and relaxed.

Did I mention the short game....practice feel, get em' close and 1 putt. If you have "three putts" in your game there is one leak, if you have many 2 putts and few 1 putts...work on chipping it closer.

Going Low by Patrick Cohn, Ph.D. a good read to help the mental game and focus on lowering your score.

Be confident, work hard and have fun.
If you find your shot to the green to be close, but no cigar then, i would recommend that you get your arms around a single wedge that is to be your best friend.

Know the wedge of its capabilities, limits %26amp; know its soul.

Chip so close to the flag, that you do not even need a putter to tap it in...you can still use the same wedge to putt it in, and that my friend, is being close to your wedge. How can I cut 2 or 3 strokes off of my golf round?Learn to "take your medicine" on the golf course. For example if you tee off into the trees it almost always save you a stroke or two to just punch out into the fairway and play from there than to try to hit through the trees toward the green. How can I cut 2 or 3 strokes off of my golf round?
practice your putting and chipping, that is the easiest way to drop a shot or two. hang out around the putting green with your friends and play games, thats what i did when i was a kid.

So many assholes on this site. All you need to do is 1. Play smarter or 2. Work on your chipping and putting. Since I worked on my chipping I have cut down my strokes by 5How can I cut 2 or 3 strokes off of my golf round?
