What does Handicap on a Golf Scorecard mean?

I understand that individuals can have handicaps, but what does it mean when a golf scorecard has a handicap listing?

For Instance, Hole 1 is a 4 Par hole with a Men's HCP of (11). What does this mean? What does Handicap on a Golf Scorecard mean? The "Handicap" line of the scorecard rates the holes for use by golfers who carry a handicap index. The handicap index is used to produce a course handicap, and the course handicap tells golfers how many strokes they get to take off their gross scores to produce a net score.

Remember, the purpose of the handicap system is to allow golfers of different playing abilities to play fair matches against one another. If I have a handicap of 27 and you have a handicap of 4, you'll beat me every time if we are using our gross (actual) scores.

Just to add some color to the prior answers, the reason why the holes are ranked is so that you know where your strokes fall. In other words, if you are a 15 handicap playing in a match against a 10 handicap, your opponent should owe you 5 strokes. You would get those strokes on the #1 thru #5 handicap holes. What does Handicap on a Golf Scorecard mean?It means that, if you used your example, hole #1 is the 11th hardest hole on the course for men. There is also a women's handicap. It is usually very similar, but it's a little different because the women's tees are placed differently. What does Handicap on a Golf Scorecard mean?
it would be the 11th most difficult hole on the course for men, all eighteen have a handicap one being the hardest eighteen being the easiestWhat does Handicap on a Golf Scorecard mean?I think that means anyone with a handicap of 11 or lower should get it in par. But I'm not sure.
