What is the minimum amount of equipment I need to play golf?

I want to start playing golf but there is so much stuff to buy, expensive stuff, I just want to know what I absolutely must have to go to a public course and be able to play and not look like a fool.What is the minimum amount of equipment I need to play golf?start out by going to the range and hitting some balls , they have cheap clubs to hit for free , strike up a cord with the local swingers , bet one of them has a set of really nice golf clubs to get rid of cheaply as they just bought new clubs . A fairway wood (3, 4, or 5- preferably a 4 or 5), a hybrid (maybe 23* or so), 7iron-PW, SW and a putter. FW for teeing off and long second shots, hybrid for long second shots (yet are shorter than when you'd use a FW) or teeing off on long par 3's, the "scoring clubs", a SW to get you out of the bunker (and another option for chipping/pitching around the green other than your irons). Putter is a MUST.



Golf shoes aren't necessary. Most cross-training/running type of shoes have all the traction you'll need. You don't need to go all-out on a bag or balls, either. Well you should purchase yourself a full set of clubs that comes with a driver, 3 wood, irons, and a putter. These are reasonable prices, and they are much cheaper than buying an individual driver, iron sets, and a putter. You could probably get a decent set for $200 which comes with a golf bag. You'll need to purchase seperately balls, tees, a golf glove, ball markers, divot repair tool, and have a collared polo shirt to fit in with everyone because these are manditory at most courses.
