To the first answerer...it's referred to as flighting (think sorting). By grouping golfers of similar handicap (i.e. skill level), or further grouping by age (juniors, adults, seniors, women, etc.) you obtain a group of golfers of like skill, which should make for a more evenly balanced tournament.How do they determine flights in a golf tournament?
Flights are usually made for Member -Guest tournaments where several classes of golfers will compete. The Championship flights are usually determined from qualifying rounds. All other flights are determined by some formula where the combined handicaps may determine the flight in which a team will be placed or the handicap of the lowest player on the team will determine his placement in a flight.
