I don't know what your budget is, but a better idea might be to buy him a golf rangefinder unless he already has one. If you decide to do this, go to a local golf retailer and ask some questions... which units require subscriptions and which ones already have the course he plays the most pre-loaded. Or even consider the Laser rangefinder binoculars - they're perfect for every course.
