When I ride my golf cart I lose battery pretty quick and I want to know how to keep it longer. How do I keep battery in my golf cart for a longer period of time?Make sure the water level is correct.
Also, you need to equalize the battery, there should be a setting on your charger to equalize.
When you charge the battery it gets the acid moving around. so, if your battery has sit for a while, then you should check the charge frequently and charge it to full.
If you have used the battery with the water level below the top of the lead plates then any part of the plates that were not under water will probably be lost for good.
bottom line, care for your batteryHow do I keep battery in my golf cart for a longer period of time?
Billy, batteries are always in need of attention. If the battery is self contained then water or electrolyte is no problem, but if it is water filled you have to inspect it each time you go out golfing. Don't let the battery lay around too long for it tends to discharge over a period of time. Have another set of batteries to exchange while you charge up the low battery. This will keep you rolling right along.
Spartawo...How do I keep battery in my golf cart for a longer period of time?Yes check water level if its a lead acid if other type follow instructions But i would get a trickle charger and keep the battery maitained and charged even over a long period of non use take care of your batteries they are not cheap oh always use DISTILLED water (no contaiminates to hurt battery)How do I keep battery in my golf cart for a longer period of time?
It's important to use DISTILLED water and always keep the water level above the cells inside the battery. Don't fill it up to the top because you will get irritating battery acid on yourself. What's important is not only keeping it about the cells, but keeping it even. If even one slot(one of the cells) is low and you ignore it, it will drain the life of the entire battery. I know it's pain because most carts contain 6 batteries with a total of 24 slots to fill, but you must do checkups 4 or 5 times a week. How do I keep battery in my golf cart for a longer period of time?Drive slower and less. How do I keep battery in my golf cart for a longer period of time?
Dear Billy, As a cart owner I'm sure you know about the basic maintenance required so I assume that much. If the batteries are three years old or older you may want to check with the cart sales store on beginning a change out of batteries. They will be happy to test the batteries for you and a good idea is to have an hours counter on your cart installed. If you keep your cart at home be sure the connectors are in good operating condition. Get yourself a charge indicator device that is calibrated to give you an exact number rather than the simple charge or no charge light. Check each battery with the devise to determine which battery(s) have lived out their usefull life. This will take six rounds of golf to determine exactly what you next step should be. If you keep your personal cart at the course ask the superintendent to do this work for you. It may not be part of your trail fee but a nice tip can get this done for you and you can enjoy this service when and if you swap out batteries. Be mindful, not all chargers are alike. Chargers are also victms of use and overuse. Be sure to check tire pressure as even a few pounds too little impacts the batteries' charge and limits very quickly.
If you other devices running off the batteries try to minimize their use and be sure they take no drain when turned off. One of my playing friends has 6 electronic gizmos on his cart including a mister for hot days. I don't allow use of a TV or radio when I play with him. Since our carts are parked at our homes he has an array of headlights and tail lights. If you have any such addition drain items they may be the cause of poor battery life. My guess is that its time for a change out of batteries. You should not need a back-up set of batteries and the trade in value of your old batteries is considerable. Good luck.
