How do I remove the plastic engine cover on a 2003 VW Golf?

How do I remove the plastic engine cover on a 2003 VW Golf? Standard 2.0 L engine. No turbo. I've read there are a couple of screws and then just pull up to pop it off. I want to be sure I've loosened everything before I pull it upwards. Anyone got a checklist?
