Is membership to a golf club rely worth it?

I know that some clubs may charge $1000's of dollars for a peice of paper and a card saying that you can play on that course for 12 months as much as you like. And play in the weekend comp where you still have to pay a small fee to join.

Why would you pay even $500?

Are there any members of golf courses on here who can tell me why they took out membership? Is membership to a golf club rely worth it?I pay 775 for unlimited play. I can go out and play 6, 9, or however many holes I can get in. My son is too young for a junior membership but the pro looks the other way if I bring him later in the evening. Next year he can join as a junior for $200 and I won't hesitate to re-up! I've played at least 40 rounds this year so the $55 normal greens fees have already only cost me less than $20 with 2 more months of playable weather. PLUS the biggest bonus is that once I spent the money my wife actually encouraged me to go play so it wasn't wasted. If I had to drop $50+ each time I played she would be giving me griefIs membership to a golf club rely worth it?
Lets take this to the even higher club levels...

The initiation might be 10K and then monthly dues could be in the 300 - 500 levels. So what does this get you?

1 - A round any time, any day

2 - Carts that work, are clean, never any problems

3 - PERFECT course conditions every day (can't control the weather, but the course will be the best the weather allows.)

4 - Rarely anybody breathing down your neck behind you

5 - Rarely anybody taking 10 swings to get out of a bunker ahead of you

6 - Charging your meals

7 - A GREAT business opportunity

8 - A fantastic family outing anytime

9 - The ability to play other courses around the US (reciprical memberships)

10- Swimming, Tennis, social events, etc. for the family.

So, lets to the math....

10K over 20 years (or any period of time you want, but memberships are equity, you can will them to your kids.) = 500/yr. Monthly 400 = 4.8k/yr, for a total of 5.3K per year.

5,300 / 12 months = 442/mo.

442/4.33 weeks = 102/week

Therefore, at 102/week is your course worth it? Around the SF Bay Area, a single round can be $100 easily, so if you play once per week, or slip in a couple rounds, it makes LOTS of sense! Is membership to a golf club rely worth it?It depends on how often you plan on golfing that year. If you plan on playing a lot, the membership would save you $ in the long run. Plus, most clubs have members-only tournaments and social events. Is membership to a golf club rely worth it?
Our club has a $200 membership fee which it usually waives a couple times a year to entice new members to join. The fees are $50 a month. I was a member about 10 to 15 years and loved it. My two sons were able to play all the time too, since it's actually a family membership. They are now able to shoot par at most any course they go to, one made it to college on a golf scholarship, the other one could have. We have all become acquainted with over 100 good friends and enjoy the competition. We have won thousands in the tournaments and dogfights etc. that they have, not to mention the County Amateur trophies and such. Yes, I would definitely have to say it's well worth the money! Is membership to a golf club rely worth it?If you play golf three times a month at a particular golf course and the green fee is $25, after twelve months you would have spent $900. Why wouldn't you join for $500 annual membership fee? Golf courses like the annual memberships because it's paid at the beginning of the season and it gives the club a large influx of operating capital for the year. Daily fee plays and cart fees is where the real money is. Many clubs offer many different types if memberships. Such as family memberships, junior memberships, single memberships, and social (non-playing) memberships, all at different cost levels.
