I recently bought a VW Golf from an independent dealer. They advertised it as a VW Golf GT TDI 130.
When i've been trying to get insurance, most companies think my car is the 150 version and others give me the option of selecting which it is, 130 or 150. The v5 doesn't reference the bhp figure.
The car looks quite low and strangely has silver GTI badges front and rear instead of TDI or GT TDI badges. It also has red sport seats.
Does anyone know how to tell for sure which version i have? How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?Hi Daniel,
I used to work for VW for 4 years as a tech and 2 years as a service advisor.
Here's the interesting bit...!
Officially VW badged up the Golf Gt Tdi 150BHP hatchback with a GTI turbo badge (silver GT and Red I) and on the Bora's they badged it with Complete red TDI.
They did muck about with the badges aswell, i.e. putting silver GTI badges and sometimes complete red tdi on the golf hatchbacks
Best way to confirm BHP and model of your vehicle is to look in the service book, there will be a sticker on the front page with lots of numbers on it, this tells the dealer everything about your specific car, from trim levels and colour to service regime, engine and gearbox. it should state on it the BHP or KW (power of that vehicle)
If this sticker is not in the service book, look underneath that carpet in the boot, round the outer rim of the spare wheel, there should be a sticker there too.
if it does not state the bhp or kw then go to a vw dealer or phone them with the engine code, they can tell you from that.
There is another way to tell too but it starts to get a bit technical. if you lift up the engine cover, if its a 150BHP then there will be a big black plastic intercooler pipe running straight past the oil filter casing. this is because the 150's have a bigger turbo and the 130's don't have this intercooler pipe...
If you cant find any stickers and dont wanna look under the bonet, phone VW up and give them the Reg number, they can bring up the information on a dialoge system, this will state the engine code's and the BHP, if the vehicle has had a plate change or its an import then give them the chassis number, they should get it from that.
The GTI TDI 150's came standard with 16inch Montreal alloys and the 130's came standard with 15inch avus alloys, this is not to say that they havnt been changed or upgraded though. see below link for standard 150's alloys.
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/Re鈥?/a>
I also belive that 150's came standard with a Leather / Wood / chrome gear knob and the 130's just a standard leather one. once again this isnt to say its been changed or upgraded.
Actually to drive these vehicle's standard you wont notice much difference at all.
When you mention about the red sports seats, all of the GT TDI's have these, even the 115BHP tdi's.
Hope this helps mate,How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?
Phone several VW dealerships and quote them the car's chassis number. They should be able to tell you from that the exact model.
Both the 130 and 150 versions are group 13 insurance, so it shouldn't really make any difference as to what power it has.How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?Defintely 130 BHP, unless it has been chipped. Noramlly a PD115 has 115 BHP, a PD130 has 130 BHP. BTW, these cars have exellent torque, it is like driving a automatic. How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?
You can't physically tell by looking at it you will have to get the engine number or alternativly look in the boot and there will be a badge with k/n on it that should deciver the bhp. Also i have noticed that golf tdi imports sometimes carry the gti badge front and back. hope this helps. How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?I would contact a local VW approved dealership. I've seen a few GT TDI's in my time and none of them have ever had a GTi badge on them. Though I suppose you can work out whether it's a GTi or TDi by whether it takes diesel or petrol. How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?
If you check on the top of the timing belt cover there should be a white sticker, on the lower line there will be a 3 letter code ie. AVB AEX etc, if this sticker is gone or can not be read check in the spare wheel well there is usually a white or yellow sticker there that you will find the code on. when you have that code check with most motor factors or google the code %26amp; you will get the answer, failing that email me the code %26amp; ill get back to you with the info.

When was the first golf cart invented?
And do you have photos of the first golf cart that was ever invented? Who invented golf carts? When was the first golf cart invented? The ancient Scots used to tie two bags of clubs to the back of their wives and then ride the women around the course. In the Royal and Ancient clubhouse at St. Andrews there is a famous picture of Old Tom Morris doing this. When was the first golf cart invented?I thought that the first cart was invented for older handicap people.
Where can I find out how fast I swing a golf club?
I can't figure out what shaft flex to get on the new driver that I want to buy. Can I go to any golf store like Golf Galaxy to find out how fast I swing because I want this driver to be right.
Thanks!Where can I find out how fast I swing a golf club?Golf Galaxy (or D1ck's, Golfsmith or Edwinn Watts if they're in your area) should be able to help you out. You could also look up an independent club fitter- do a Y! or Google search, since many don't advertise in the Yellow Books. Most places will charge you to use their launch monitors/simulators- there's quite an expense to those machines, and it needs to be recouped somehow.Where can I find out how fast I swing a golf club?As long as you buy the club from them.Where can I find out how fast I swing a golf club?At most Golf Galaxy stores they have simulators that measure your ball speed. They also have conversion charts hanging in the simulators that give you an estimate of your swing speed.. But launch angle is more important.
You can also get your exact swing speed if you do a ball fitting of use a Trackman but those are expensive.Where can I find out how fast I swing a golf club?

How much torque (N m) does a golf swing put on the average person/Tiger's knee? What can I compare this to?
As is obvious to anyone who has seen Tiger swing a club, he puts a tremendous amount of torque on the knee he is getting surgery on. I am wondering if there are exact measurements as to how much torque people, particularly Tiger, put on their knee during a golf swing. As I am relatively unfamiliar with physics, I would also appreciate a comparison of that measurement to something understandable. How much torque (N m) does a golf swing put on the average person/Tiger's knee? What can I compare this to?Here it is in simple terms.
Torque = Force X lever.
The lever is the distance from the center of curvature of the swing.
Force= mass X acceleration
Mass is the wt of the club, his arms and the ball itself when he hits it.
Acceleration if from the equation
accel=w^2(r)
Here is how you find the r. Find the point where half of the mass of the swing is further out, and half is closer to the center. That is the r part of the acceleration.
Now let me get in to the w. Just at there are 360 degrees in a complete circle. There is 2*pi radians in a complete circle. Approx 6.28 radians in a complete circle.
w=radians/second
Try to find out how much time it takes to complete the swing and how much of a complete circle it takes. Take the percentage of a complete circle, multiply it y 2 * pi and then divide it by the amount of time it takes to complete that swing. That would be w. Take the w to the second poser, this is w^2.

What could be wrong with my electric golf cart?
I have a 2004 Club Car golf cart... the lights will keep dimming on it while driving at night, but the battery is not low, and normally when the battery is low, the light will not dim until the cart is basically crawling. I'd like to see if anyone has any experience with this before I go digging through things. Thanks in advance. What could be wrong with my electric golf cart?First thing I would check is the lamp ground wiring to be sure it is clean and tight to the mounting point of the vehicle. Then check the accessory wire from the battery connection and make sure that there is no corrosion on the wire that feeds the power to the lamps. Then check the switch and/or relay for any looseness and then up at the lamps for any loose connections.

What is the spring constant of the golf ball?
What is a good estimate for the spring constant of the golf ball (assuming that it behaves like a Hooke's Law spring under compression)? What is the spring constant of the golf ball?I am taking a Physics and we just did a lab on Hooke's Law.
Spring Constant- springs resistance to being stretched, it tells us the stiffness. The larger the spring constant the larger the force which makes it harder to stretch. Hooke's Law is basically explaining the behavior of spring, the more you stretch or compress is, more force is required. The formula for calculating the force due to a spring is:
F=kx
meanings:
F (force of the spring)
k (spring constant measured in N/m or N/cm) which is Newton Meters or Centimeters
x (distance stretched)
Force of the spring is equal to the weight
(Newton's 2nd Law)
I'm not sure if this really answers your question but I hope it helps and leads you in the right direction. Best of luck. What is the spring constant of the golf ball?well... my best answer for this question would be to think of the "spring constant" as gravity. The reason i say gravity is because if you were to drop a golf ball from a certain height, it would of course, bounce. But the height of the bounce would not be as high as the original height at which the ball was dropped. So this also proves true in the case of a spring with a certain spring constant. When you have a spring and block attached to the end, when the system is oscillating, the spring will not go to the original point at which the spring was pulled... Dropping a golf ball and witnessing the bounces is much easier to see than the difference in oscillations of a block and spring.
I hope i was able to answer your question... or at least give you another way to look at it...

I have a hard time controlling my golf ball around bermuda greens?
I play Bridgestone e5+ and Nike Black golf balls. I can control my ball better on Bent grass but on bermuda it seems to run away. Anything suggestion would greatly be appreciate.I have a hard time controlling my golf ball around bermuda greens?Bermuda grass is much more difficult to play than a bent grass green or course. Bermuda grass is gnarly, has a heavy grass blade and root system which requires an almost perfect strike with irons and approach shots to the green and a definite grain on the putting surface. One has to play these greens in order to properly read the grain with side hill putts being a definite problem.I have a hard time controlling my golf ball around bermuda greens?
The grain of the grass is pretty important for Bermuda grass. The leaves are broader and stronger than bent grass, so if the grain is growing towards you (it'll be a dark shade of green), you'll need to give it a little extra "oomph" to get the ball the distance you need. If it's growing away from you (it'll be a light shade of green, or almost shiny) you should just make your regular swing.
It's that way for chipping and pitching, and it's very true for putting. When you putt, if you're against the grain, break isn't as important as speed. The ball will roll slower, so you'll need either to give it some more gusto, which kind of negates break- or keep everything the same but play for slightly more break. The ball will roll faster going with the grain, so keep that in mind.
"Bones" McKay, Phil Mickelson's caddy, states that he gives one read for bent greens, but two for Bermuda- one for a strong putt, another for a weak (for lack of a better word) putt. It depends on how PM is feeling. If he wants to charge the ball into the hole, the strong read with less break is used. If he wants to "die" it into the hole, the weak read is used.I have a hard time controlling my golf ball around bermuda greens?Typically on bermuda the ball is actually sitting down a bit more, requiring a precise strike. Bent greens are usually kept wetter ( especially in the south ) to prevent burning and death to the fine grass blades. Both golf balls you mentioned do not have a very high spin rate on chips, the ProV1 will spin the most on chips ( which is why I won't use it )I have a hard time controlling my golf ball around bermuda greens?
Everyone says the same thing. If you usually play on bent, you're going to have trouble on Bermuda. Period.I have a hard time controlling my golf ball around bermuda greens?on slower putts allow more break and faster putts less

How to qualify for a big golf tournament?
I am trying to qualify for a huge golf tournament over the weekend, or at least it is big too me. I have practiced and my game is good but i just need help controlling the mental aspect. If i have a bad hole, how to put it behind me etc. Any help would be appreciated!!How to qualify for a big golf tournament?its just something that you get over over time. two years ago i can remember slamming clubs after a bad hole and just last year my driver finally broke from the abuse. this year though ive learned to just let it go and not worry about a bad hole. one because theres still a lot of golf to be played in the round and you can make up for the bad hole and, two because theres really nothing on the line unless youre maybe trying out for something. there is no money in youth golf. just enjoy the gameHow to qualify for a big golf tournament? The key is playing one shot at a time. When that shot is over forget about it and move to the next. Focus on the present shot at hand. Do not count strokes or keep track of how you are doing. Focus on the shot at hand. Where is the best place to golf in thailand?
Some friends and I will be in Thailand at the end of January. Can anyone tell me where the best golf courses are? Ive heard Bangkok and Pattaya. Any pros and cons to each? Thanks for your feedback.Where is the best place to golf in thailand? There are so many first class golf courses in Thailand it is unbelievable.
Pattaya has sevaral good couses, Kanchanaburi has several good courses,
Chiang Mai has several good courses. So does Phuket.
When I lived in Thailand, a friend of mine organised a golf tour every year. We would play a differenet course every day for nime days. I don't recall playing the same course twice when on tour.
The biggest benefit of golf in Thailand is the caddies. You get a caddy at each course, who knows the lie of each green, and who will quickly assess your ability, and help you with club selection. Golf in Phuket
Enjoy a round of golf against a tropical backdrop Phuket is probably the best place in Thailand for golf, with a number of first class courses in the area. Phuket golf courses offer a challenging round in warm tropical weather, drawing visitors from all over the world.
Altogether there are 81 holes to be played at three separate Phuket golf clubs and all of them are open to the general public and offer equipment hire, caddies and carts at reasonable prices.
However, Phuket gets full over the holiday season of December and January and visitors wishing to indulge in a game of golf in Phuket are advised to book in advance. Phuket is also hardly the cheapest place to play golf in Thailand and better value can be had in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Generally a round will cost about 2000 baht ($50).
Blue Canyon Country Club offers two of the best golf courses on Phuket. The country club is located just seven minutes from the airport, on the north end of the island.
The Canyon Course is the club鈥檚 championship class course and is considered to be one of the best links in all of Asia. A par 72 course, the Canyon is 7179 yards of top flight golf. This challenging course includes water hazards on ten of its holes and more than 80 bunkers to trap the unruly ball. The course consists of four par threes and four par fives, with the nasty 600 yard 11th hole being the most difficult. Rated the easiest on the course, the 407 yard 4th hole is still a challenge and the yawning chasm on the 309 yard 13th hole can be a daunting sight to any player.
Green fees, caddies and carts are all affordable in Thailand The aptly named Lakes Course features water on 17 of the 18 holes but is still not as difficult as the Canyon. Larger greens and fewer bunkers (36) mean that this course is more suited to beginners and causal players. Highlights of the Lakes Course include the 4th hole, which doglegs from a gorgeous wide fairway into a knot of trees and foliage before a shot over a canyon to an elevated green, and the deceptive 18th hole, which gives players a choice between left and right hand paths around a huge tree in the middle of the fairway.
Laguna Country Club is located in the prestigious Laguna Compound which is home to some of the most exclusive homes and resorts on the island. Formerly the Banyan Tree Phuket Golf Club, the Laguna has been renamed and greatly upgraded in recent years. Despite the addition of more water hazards, this is still a relatively simple course for those who simply want to enjoy a lovely day on the links. Water is a factor on 14 holes of this par 71, 6654 yard course. The course has two holes that stand out from the rest. The 612 yard par five 17th hole snakes first left, then right and terminates in a triangular green, while the 373 yard, par four 9th hole offers up the challenge of an island green with up and down slopes to remind the player that this course still has its challenges. Although there are no golf carts, there are plans to introduce them and the walk is easily manageable.
Phuket Country Club offers two golf courses on either side of a road between Phuket Town and Patong Beach. The 18 hole Old Course is fairly flat and simple, and offers the definite possibility of a low score, while the nine hole new course has varied terrain and is a challenge to players of all abilities. Among the highlights of the Old Course are the 10th and 17th holes. The 10th features a water hazard where the fairway should be. This 557 yard par five offers the temptation of carrying the 240 yards to the green in one shot, possible but difficult. The 143 yard, par three 17th is almost an island green and getting to the wide putting surface is never simple.
Across the road on the nine hole New Course players are challenged by the 450 yard par five 8th hole which has two fairways, one on a plateau and one that lays up in front of a canal. The centre of the hole is dominated by trees and the two fairways link again in front of the green. The last hole on the course is a 545 yard par five that throws everything at players, including rough, a narrow fairway and a long water hazard on the approach to the green.Where is the best place to golf in thailand?Slightly off subject, but if you make it to Bangkok then check out the Plaza Thaniya Mall, adjacent to Sala Daeng BTS (sky train) station. It's essentially a mall full of golf shops - I guess at least 30+.
While they don't all speak English, then they do have methods of communicating which you can understand.

Can you think of a clever golf headline to be used on a page in a high school yearbook?
The spread is on the boys Varsity golf team - my story is due Thursday, and I am attempting to impress my editor with an intriguing, unique, and clever headline/title for the story.
The title is preferred to have three words, but all suggestions are more than welcome.

What kind of golf clubs should i get?
i want my own set of golf clubs i have gone golfing about ten times now so i understand the game. i was wondering should i buy a complete set or should i go piece by piece so like buy a driver than some irons putter etc.. also what type of clubs do you recommend? i want clubs that i will be able to learn with but also be able to use once i get to an intermediate level. What kind of golf clubs should i get?Buy the irons as a set and woods, wedges, putter, driver separately. For irons you should get game improvement irons. The soles on those are just right for beginners intermediate golfers. If you get super game improvement clubs, chances are you will out grew them fast. I out grow mine in 6 months. You don't need to buy high end stuff. As for brand, if you go with any of the top brands you should be good. They are make affordable clubs. Myself, I like King Cobra, Callaway, and Adams golf. Hope this helps. What kind of golf clubs should i get?
You should buy your clubs at ebay like i did. I bought a complete set of Taylormade clubs, brand new and real, for until $1000, were if you were to buy it from a pro shop will run you about twice as much.
You can also purchase it piece by piece from ebay as well, and if your wondering if the clubs are real Taylormade has a section on their website that tells you which ebay sellers sell fake clubs.
good luckWhat kind of golf clubs should i get?i just started playing and got a complete set of RAM clubs for $150 it has driver 3 and 5 wood, hybrid, 5-PW, putter, 4 head covers and a bag. they're great for beginner or intermediate players. i like them. RAM has different models, mine specifically is G-FORCE. i got them at Sports Authority. What kind of golf clubs should i get?
Buy used clubs!
Piece by piece is a good way to go.
You can buy really high quality stuff from a few years ago pretty cheaply.
That way you'll have a low cost set that you will be able to grow with and use for a long time.
Yes, Mizuno irons and wedges are nice. What kind of golf clubs should i get?I'd go with a complete set, but start out with a cheaper set like this one:

Beat the heck out of them and then think about going for a name brand set once you're more skilled.
Good Luck!

Yes mizuno irons %26amp; wedges are good. Im sure the Drivers are good too. Try some irons that say "oversized" on them, they will really help you and are forgiving if you mis hit the ball

What quality are Palm Springs brand golf clubs?
I used to play golf years ago, but I'm trying to get back in to it. I found a set of clubs I like that are affordable to me, but I've never heard of the brand. They are Palm Springs brand. Does anyone know about the quality of them? What quality are Palm Springs brand golf clubs? These are pretty poor quality clubs. If you are shopping on a budget, may I suggest RockBottomGolf.com ? What is the beneffit to get lesson from famous golf school?
There are many famous golf school like butch harmon, david leadbetter, dave pelz, etc... which will cost thousand for the 2-4 days school.
Meanwhile, they are many good teachers and get private lesson from them and cost much lower.
So, what is the real benefit to get lesson from famous golf schoolWhat is the beneffit to get lesson from famous golf school? Most of the people who go to these types of schools do it for the experience rather than the value. They go to say "I went to Dave Pelz's school." It's kind of like those baseball fantasy camps where a bunch of Hall of Fame players "teach" you to play better, but you're really going for the experience of getting to rub elbows with the guys running the thing.
If you're looking for the best value to improve your game, find a local private instructor and get long term lessons so that he can continually help you improve rather than a 2 day clinic from a bunch of people you'll never see again. What is the beneffit to get lesson from famous golf school?
Those guys charge so much because they are the teachers of the pros. But it doesn't necessarily make them better. Just more famous.
BTW, many of these guys don't charge the pros for lessons. Harmon, for example, works for free -- if you're a pro. He then leverages his connection with the pros into endorsement fees for products, and the high rates he charges everyone else. What is the beneffit to get lesson from famous golf school? If you are shooting in the low 70s, then they will perfect your game.
If you are in the high 90s, private lessons are fine. What is the beneffit to get lesson from famous golf school?
The biggest benefit is that you can brag to your friends that you paid thousand for top notch instruction from someone who is a good self promoter. It doesn't mean your game will improve in proportion to what you spend. What is the beneffit to get lesson from famous golf school?Let me add that if you go to the school, you are not being taught by Butch Harmon himself or David Leadbetter himself. You are being taught by PGA/LPGA teaching professional, just like at your local club. The only difference is that they have been trained in the famous golf school method.
I agree with the others -- the only real benefit is bragging rights.

I know they have special packaging facilities for fishing rods.
Since they don't like potential weapons on-board the plane, it would have to go below
If it is for a gift, Fed Ex it.
If you are going to use it, the airline may have such a worry free system, you could take a few other clubs too
If you are worried about bending the shaft, look fo a PVC pipe from a plumbing supply to slide the club in. Cut a notch for the club head to give extra supportHow to pack and handle a golf club for a flight?I'd stop in the local golf shop and ask them if they have a box you could have or buy from them. Most of the time they'd be glad to throw you an extra box they were going to put in the trash. Try to get a box that a driver came in.
Bubble wrap the head good and then use some blue painters tape to tape the shaft to the inside of the box, so it doesn't rattle around. That should be plenty to keep it safe during the trip. How to pack and handle a golf club for a flight?

How much would a fuse for a sun roof on a VW Golf cost?
I tried to open the sunroof on my VW Golf and the fuse blew. I need a new one but don't know where to get it or how much it costs. Any help would be appreciated. How much would a fuse for a sun roof on a VW Golf cost? You get fuses at a parts store. They are usually in blister packs hanging on a wall in the lights dept. You can get a assortment for your car for about 3 or 4 dollars. Pick out the one you need and keep the package (it's small) in the glove box for the next time you need a fuse.
What are the advantages of a golf club membership?
I have looked at all kinds of websites for golf courses and they all offer a membership, but what are the benefits of it?What are the advantages of a golf club membership? Here are the main advantages:
1. Best/regular tee times
2. Official USGA handicap
3. Local tournaments
4. Waived green fees
5. Walk for no additional charge
6. Discount rates for lessons from the course pro (usually)
The advantage is debatable depending on how frequently you play and the green fees charged by the course vs the membership rate.
For example, where I am a member the public rate is $65 fee %26amp; cart. I play twice a week usually and pay $244/mo between membership fee and cart fees. As a non-member I would have to pay $440/mo. So for me I save about $200/mo being a member.
This is good for the course because they have a regular income and a dependable clientele for all their ancillary services. What are the advantages of a golf club membership?
They are usually private, so they give you playing privileges and you can play in their events. I personally think they are a waste of money unless you don't have any other courses in your area. You will feel obligated to play their course if only to justify your membership fees. Some are outrageously over priced and besides the annual dues you are also responsible to purchase a certain amount from their restaurant on a monthly basis. I've seen some with a million dollar annual due, of course most around here are $20k that is still a lot more than I would ever pay to play golf I don't care how nice the course is.What are the advantages of a golf club membership?there are two types of golf club memberships, i'm not sure which one you are referring to
there are club memberships that are just a group of players, associated with a course or not, who play together often and join the club to maintain their handicap. this membership is usually not very expensive
then there are memberships in country clubs that have golf courses. some charge large amounts of money to join, have annual dues and have additional expectations of their members such as spending money in the pro shop, bar, and restaurant. membership in these clubs can be seen as a luxury. some of these types of club have long waiting list to join. some are restrictive in who they allow to join. some of the best known courses in the world fall into this category. for example - augusta national where the pga plays a "major" tournament is a private club that does not have any female members
which type you join may have more to do with your income than anything else. i can't afford one and might not join if i could. where i live there are a large number of public courses where i can walk and play 18 for under $40 per round. when i play three times a week i don't go broke and i play maybe 10-12 courses in a random location. there are public courses where the pga plays tournaments, some are expensive to play like pebble beach, some are more reasonably priced like torrey pinesWhat are the advantages of a golf club membership?
In Australia, your handicap is calculated and maintained by your golf club where you are a member.
My golf club also runs competitions with prizes on different days of the week
- Tues = Men's
- Wed = Women's
- Thurs = over 60's
- Saturday = General Comp (most workers play Sat)
(Public can't start their round until after 10 am those days)
Members get a bit better rates for Driving Range, Friend's green fees, and get to know other golfers. (I get good playing tips from them)
There are other advantages depending on your course. Ask at the office.
(Next time you go to play ask, "I'm thinking of getting a club membership. I'm trying to decide between you and 'XYZ'. What do members get here?")What are the advantages of a golf club membership?Unless you golf at least twice a week, it's not worth it. The only other perk is that members get preferred tee times over non members. If a member and a non member both want an 8:00 tee time on Sunday morning, the member trumps the non member.

What are the odds of getting hit in the eye with a golf ball on a trampoline?
was recently on a trampoline and got nailed in the eye with a golf ball. What are the odds of getting hit in the eye with a golf ball on a trampoline?Id say the odds would increase the closer you were to a golf course.
The fact you were on a trampoline may have added to that but still it could of happened while you were standing on a deck. What are the odds of getting hit in the eye with a golf ball on a trampoline?
If you want to jump on the trampoline with a ball I would recommend using something a little softer. As you jump the ball will bounce up and because you are heavier than the golf ball it will bounce towards you.... so yes, it is VERY likely it can hit you on the head! Use a tennis ball, it won't hurt as much. Have fun jumping, and be careful!

What exercises and/or stretches can I do for sore knees from golf?
I literally golf 40-50 hours a week during non winter months. The muscles right on the inside of my knee starts to get pretty sore. It's tolerable right now, but I would like to do some stretches and exercises to improve this.
What could I do? It starts at about the inner side of my knee and extends down the leg a little bit. I also don't have much flexibility in my hips (yet, I'm going to work on it), so could this be causing it too? What exercises and/or stretches can I do for sore knees from golf?what is your age? if you're over 30, you may be on the verge of a cornucopia of medical problems.
it could be your medial co-lateral ligament. i suggest you see a good ortho doc to find out what is
going on then ask them which exercises to do. pain is usually an indication that our body is trying
to tell us something like don't golf 50 hrs a week. my inability to pace myself when i was younger
had led to my being on crutches for the past 15 yrs.

How does one start an online golf store? Nothing major, something more of a hobby...to sell clubs on ebay?
Looking for help on how to start on online golf ebay store. Interested in selling drivers, putters, irons, balls online. Any tips? I have no idea where to start but I would like to do it for a side job/hobby.How does one start an online golf store? Nothing major, something more of a hobby...to sell clubs on ebay?I have sold clubs on ebay. I have found that selling used clubs to beginner and such is really profitable. For example, I sold my old set of Taylor made ICWs (first sale) for $50. A pair of OLD Metal-woods, $25. All these were mine and I got plenty of use but it made me think.
I was able to get clubs from a garage sale for $5. They were dirty and mixed. I cleaned them up a little and sold them for $25. I was given some clubs (junkers) cleaned them and got $20. REMEMBER SHIPPING IS PAID FOR.
I have included used balls often with my sales. I grab balls out of my over flowing bucket and put them in as an add in. I must have sold about 5 or 6 golf sales. I made a profit on all of them. I plan on going searching for clubs again when garage sales begin and doing the same.
The key is to clean the clubs as much as you can. DESCRIBE THEM WELL!! Don't rate them a 7 when they are a 4. Don' say "good shape" when they are in poor condition. There are camps and beginners looking for a deal so they are your target in this way. Do research and know what you are looking for.How does one start an online golf store? Does working out your abs and lower body help you hit a golf ball further?
I am 12 years old and I am 5'2 and I hit a golf ball about 205 with my driver on average .If it does help can you tell me some exercises that can help me increase my driving distance?Does working out your abs and lower body help you hit a golf ball further? You're only 12.....HEED THIS ADVICE, forget about your driving distance if it's 205 now, when you're fully grown and filled in it will be more. Right now is the time to work on your short game and putting, learn feel, learn how to master your wedges, learn a make or break flop shot to perfection. Forget about hours at the driving range and move to the putting green. YOU take control of your short game now and you could possibly have a future, professionally. Every PGA tour member can drive a ball 280-320+ with accuracy.....its the short game and putting that takes home the check. Core strengthening (abs, chest, back) and flexibility are the key. YOGA is the answer. I cannot tell you how many guys I have played with that can drive the ball 50yds from the green and tally up a double bogey....don't even go there, save your testosterone for football and wrestling. Work on control and accuracy. You'll thank me someday for this or smack yourself for not listening. Happy Golfing.Does working out your abs and lower body help you hit a golf ball further? While core strength is always a good idea, having hand/forearm strength is a definite plus. A big misconception is to swing the club with the body... I've heard that for a while now, and still don't know anyone that can fully explain it. The truth is, you need your arms and hands to help, as well. They remain passive in the backswing, but they fire through impact. Fred Couples, when talking about his easy-as-you-please swing, has said himself that at impact he's "trying to really go after the ball" (Golf magazine). If done correctly, your swing speed will skyrocket.
Make sure, though, to work on your flexibility. Don't sacrifice that for strength, or you'll just end up with a new set of issues.

What is an affordable place to golf in Cancun, Mexico?
I'm going to Cancun the first week of March. I want to play an affordable but nice place to golf. I'm a 10 handicap and the others going with are 15 to 25 handicappers. We are looking for a scenic, yet laid back course. Somewhere we can relax with a few drinks and lose a few balls. What is an affordable place to golf in Cancun, Mexico?DON'T listen to mexyhuck as for he is a retard.
There are two courses in the HOTEL ZONE of Cancun. Pok-Ta-Pok and the Hilton. There are other courses, but you would have to travel out of the hotel zone. Pok-ta-pok is the cheaper of the two and the easier one. PTP is very scenic and has views of the ocean.
Hilton is very expensive and NO views of the ocean. Your buddies would have a better time at PTP. If your buddies are 25 handicappers they aren't going to want to waste $200 greens fees to go chilli dipping at the Hilton. My advice go to PTP since it's a real Mexican course. Why waste money on an overpriced Hilton when you can do that in the US.What is an affordable place to golf in Cancun, Mexico?IN cancun there are only two courses the hilton and pok da pok i suggest a person with a 10-25 go to the hilton it is fun a challenge but and not to expencive about 150 when all said and done. there is a new course north of cancun i think it is trent jones the 2nd but i have not played or know the pricesWhat is an affordable place to golf in Cancun, Mexico?None - most resort area golf courses in Mexico are expensive, and Cancun has to be one of the most expensive - for everything!sea ray boggle online

If your buddies are 25 handicappers they aren't going to want to waste $200 greens fees to go chilli dipping at the Hilton. My advice go to PTP since it's a real Mexican course. Why waste money on an overpriced Hilton when you can do that in the US.What is an affordable place to golf in Cancun, Mexico?IN cancun there are only two courses the hilton and pok da pok i suggest a person with a 10-25 go to the hilton it is fun a challenge but and not to expencive about 150 when all said and done. there is a new course north of cancun i think it is trent jones the 2nd but i have not played or know the pricesWhat is an affordable place to golf in Cancun, Mexico?None - most resort area golf courses in Mexico are expensive, and Cancun has to be one of the most expensive - for everything!

The clubhead is stable through the shot, even when you miss the dead-center sweetspot. Its lighter weight lets you swing harder, and possibly increase clubhead speed, without losing your balance. Inverted cone technology behind the clubface contributes to longer off-center hits. Feel free to turn this either direction on doglegs. Lastly, it has a great sound, much better than the loud crash of many drivers.

Driver is the hardest club in your bag to hit... I suggest that if you are a beginner go find yourself an 8 or 7 iron and hit that for a few days. Then if your still into it go get yourself a cheap set of clubs that includes the bag it should have a driver in it so you'll be ready.
However if you just want to get the best driver out there regardless cause you got it like that I use the Cleveland Hi-Bore and I think it is by far superior to Nike SQ or any of the other high end drivers out there now. But it is pretty dependent on an individuals swing too.

Will Obama stop playing hoops and golf and campaigning long enough to support our great military?
Obama spent more time on the basket ball court and playing golf than he does supporting our great soldiers in Afghanistan, you remember, Obama's "right and just war", that's only "words" from his purple lying lips.
Eight meetings later, the Obama Cabal has yet to support our great soldiers, why are the liberals waiting?

Obama has done more for our retired and disabled veterans than any president in the last 40 years. Don't know why you think he isn't supporting the troops.
Because he is. So, what should Obama do. Keep us sending more 18 year old kids to fight a stupid 4th world countries war when we can not even bomb or fire FIRST.
You as a Airborne Ranger if you were and I wonder do not understand anything about this war and as I lost my foot to it I wonder if you have been there and if not then you need to take off the disrespectful joker face which shows immaturity and learn the truth.

What is the proper length that golf clubs should be?
I am going to resize my own golf clubs to fit me, I am 5'5'' and was wondering what the proper length would be?What is the proper length that golf clubs should be?from the top of my head, i'd say that at 5'5'', u'd cut an inch and flatten the lie angle 2 degrees from standard but you may want to make sure before u do. easiest way to get fitted is to walk into any big golf retail store like golfsmith, roger dunns(california residents) and its free and takes like 15 mins. another way to check your own specs is to go to pinggolf.com, they have a web fit program where u punch in all the measurements n it auto-configures for u.What is the proper length that golf clubs should be?
There is no proper length when it comes to getting custom clubs...case in point, I'm 6ft-5in tall...do you think 'off the shelf' golf clubs are going to be a perfect fit? No, they're not! I currently play with Titleist 990's (I know their old but I love em') and they're 1/2 inch over standard and 4-degrees upright....
So, to 'custom fit' your clubs to not only your height, but your swing, do what I did:
1: Purchase some masking tape...it's yellow in color and very, very thin
2. Go to your local driving range and buy a bucket (80-100)of range balls
3. Get loose and warm up for a bit
4. Take out an IRON and rip off a piece of masking tape just long enough to cover the face of the iron.
NOTE: You want the bottom of the masking tape to be at the bottom of the club face, so the first 3-5 'scoring lines' are taped up
5. Hit a golf ball, then look at where you made impact on the club face.
6. Hit another golf ball, again taking a look at where impace was made.
NOTE 1: If you're finding that you're hitting the ball more on the TOE of the club face, then you would need to RAISE the club to an UPRIGHT position and vice versa if you're hitting the club face towards the back of the heel.
7: Go through ALL YOUR IRONS/WEDGES following this sytem and don't be surprised if your longer irons (3/4/5) need to be 'flat', while your shorter irons (7/8/9/PW) need to be upright...or vice versa...as our swing changes ever so slightly when the club gets longer in length!
Hope this helps?
RME, JrWhat is the proper length that golf clubs should be?First off. If you have not done any club building or repair prior to this I would not do it. Like the others have said. Shortening clubs is not all that has to be taken into account here. Lie angle is probably more important than length. Unless you have a Lie angle machine...take them to someone that has both the knowledge and equipment to do it right.
If you are dead set to do it yourself.

1 inch down from standardWhat is the proper length that golf clubs should be?All of the professional fitting stuff is great but dont underestimate your eyeballs. i am 6'4'' but i use standard length shafts and 1.5 flat lie because i have a low stance and my arms are long. when you are in your stance just look down and see (make sure you do it on a flat surface, not carpet), also watch your shots on the range, if you seem to hit a lot of pull's the club is to upright, pushes and its to flat.
as for the shafts i would really reccomend ordering new ones because cutting a lot off will dramatically chnage the stiffness, wieght distribution and kick point. What is the proper length that golf clubs should be?
Go get custom fit. No one on the internet is going to be able to say you're 5'5", your clubs should be this long. Club fitting takes more measurements than just height. you can forget about leg length, torso length and arm length. Also there may be other measurements that are important to club fitting.

How do I properly install a golf cart radio?
I am having problems hooking up my radio to my 36V electric golf cart. I ran the power line directly to the + terminal of the first battery, and tried connecting the ground wire to the chasis, and there was no power to the radio. Should I connect the ground to the negative terminal of the same of different battery? It seems like this should be very simple to install, but not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!How do I properly install a golf cart radio? You probably have 6 - 6 volt batteries wired in series for a 36 volt system
You will need to connect the positive of radio to the last positive in string and then connect the negative to the negative terminal of the second battery before that one that is connected in series
2 - 6 volt batteries will provide you with the desired 12 volts

What would a cab ride from the vegas strip to Reflection Bay Golf Course (Lake Las Vegas) cost?
Im going to vegas in a couple of weeks staying at Ballys, and we're playing golf at Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas. Thanks for the help! What would a cab ride from the vegas strip to Reflection Bay Golf Course (Lake Las Vegas) cost?It will cost about $60 plus tip from Ballys. The taxi cab authority has a chart that lists prices from the airport so you have to add the mileage from Ballys to the Airport and from the airport to Lake Las Vegas. What would a cab ride from the vegas strip to Reflection Bay Golf Course (Lake Las Vegas) cost? From Bally to Lake Las Vegas/Reflection Bay cost about $50.30 one way
Sixteen taxicab companies service the Las Vegas valley. When you enter a taxicab, the driver will start the taximeter (referred to as the “drop”) and an initial charge of $3.30 will register. If a taxi ride originates at McCarran International Airport, an additional airport surcharge of $1.80 per trip is added to the taximeter. After the initial “drop”, the taximeter will assess a fare of $2.40 per mile ($.20 for each 1/12th of a mile traveled). If the taximeter senses that the taxicab is moving less than 8-12 MPH, the taximeter will assess a charge of $.20 (twenty cents) every 24 seconds ($30.00 per hour waiting time). That is why the taximeter continues to accumulate charges even when the taxicab is not moving. Once the taximeter senses that the taxicab is moving at a speed greater than 8-12 MPH the fare calculates on the actual distance traveled. What would a cab ride from the vegas strip to Reflection Bay Golf Course (Lake Las Vegas) cost?lake las vegas easy 50 bucks.
why not considering renting a car it is cheaper by the day even with gas.

What was the movie where the girl meets two brothers, and the one brother ends up beating her with a golf club?
This movie looked a bit old, I haven't seen it in forever! I was just wondering what the name of it was so that I could maybe see it again.
The movies goes like this:
The girl moves in next door to two brothers and they both end up falling in love with her. She chooses one brother over the other, the un-choosen brother gets so upset he beats her with his fathers golf club. What was the movie where the girl meets two brothers, and the one brother ends up beating her with a golf club?Murder in Greenwich

I see these ads where it says you can make a living playing golf for free. What's that all about? Is it really possible to play golf for free and get paid for it?I'm not sure about these ads you speak about but if you work at a golf course, you can get out for free on other nearby golf courses most of the time. What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?
I don't have my own clubs, and golf is very fun for me, and I want to buy my own. What are the best clubs out there? (Besides the really really really expensive ones)What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?The best clubs are the ones u can afford.
But honestly its not just about the best clubs, if it was that easy everybody who could afford the best clubs would be great.
Get a good set and play as much as u can better yet buy an average set and use the rest of the mopey for lessons or game fees. What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?
popular brands for most recreational golfers(or the general public) are taylor made, callaway, nike and ping. however, there are more brands out there that most recreational golfers wouldn't consider because of the lack of "popularity," while popular among more passionate golfers, in brands such as mizuno, cleveland, ben hogan, titleist, cobra, etc that also carry very high quality clubs for beginners.
go to your local golf shop and ask what they would recommended for a beginner. if you have the funds to purchase that set on the spot, then go ahead, otherwise, do a search on ebay for that same set and see if you can get a better deal. What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?The very best could be different for everyone. i play cleveland blade irons and a titleist driver, a taylormade putter and one cleveland and one taylormade wedge and a nike three wood. It is very hard to determine whats best for you but I can tell you the best ones to buy will be the one's you have a pro fit you with or the ones most comfortable to you. I used to be an assistant pro. A good set does not have to cost a lot. I could find you an ok set for around 500.00. A great set like the one I had well I was a pro was about 2000.00
I believe that it is not how much you pay for golf clubs but how you play with them. Some can feel too heavy or too light, too flexy or too stiff and some just look right when you place the club on the ground in front of you. Best thing is to try many sets in your professional's shop and find out what suits you. You may find a second hand set that will be relatively cheap but suit you. What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?Well that is so subjective. You really have to go and try out different brands and decide what feels good to you. I'm a Nike guy, so I always tell people to buy Nike products. It works for the best player in the world and they work well for me. I've played Ping, Mizuno, and TaylorMade equipment. Each brand makes quality equipment. Each makes equipment for players of all levels. Again, you have to decide what feels best to you. Don't let anyone try to sell you something that doesn't feel good to you. As far as price goes, buy the previous year's model and save some money or try a discount website. What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?
Oh gees tough one but the truth is taylormade titleist and bridgstone make great irons form there its callaway and nike etcc.. In fact all of the major company's make great clubs what you really need to focus on if your serious is not just the head but the length lie and most important the shaft. I went club hunting tries some bridgstone jj36 or something nice blades but hate the rifle flighted shafts. Titlesit ap2 or ap1 may be your best bet great clubs for decent golfers will help you get the ball high and launch far. If you want discount buy great used clubs like titlesit mb 695 2 years old look around but make sure you get the best for your game and most likely that's a major name brand.
The answer is truly "it depends". If you want the best set for your game you really need to get fitted by a professional. The will check your swing and fit you for all the proper characteristics. Price doesn't mean the best for your game. Go with a pro's advice.
With no other info I would say Mizuno makes the very best clubs but that does not mean they are the best for your game. go get fitted by a pro. it wil only cost you about $20 max (free if you buy from them) and will be totally worth the time spent. Enjoy! What is the best set of golf clubs you can get?
i have a friend that has changed clubs 10 times over 12yrs. now he finally found a set he like and hits well with. so it all depends on you. i started with a 35.00 set wilsons. then 250.00 wilson. now i have 2300.00 wilson. if you want to learn ball control get a set of blades. this is the type of head on irons. start out with a cheap set(used) learn with them then go get a good set.
well there are lots of good clubs and anymore today all club makers use the same technology but it all comes down to personal preference. I prefer Titliest. they are expensive but they are good quality clubs. You can get them cutsom made or off the shelf at your local Titliest retailer.
How good are you? Do you hit the ball pure? Bridgestone compound irons(my irons) are very good. I shoot around 5 over 18 holes. So Im really good..I dont even practice but Im so use to my clubs. If you want something easier and cheap try King Cobras and a good shaft will help you depending on your swing speed.
The best set is my next set.

What is the proper attire for a woman to wear at a golf tournament and country club if she is not a player?
I'm going to attend a friends golf tournament and I have no idea what to wear b/c I have never been to one. Also, what should you wear to a country club? What is the proper attire for a woman to wear at a golf tournament and country club if she is not a player?Anything sporty with sport shoes. Golf shoes will be good as it will help prevent you from slipping down the slope in the course, but not necessary. High heels are nightmaire and strictly improper, prohibited, uncultured and should be made illegal on golf course. Sadly, I've seen some girls wear them!!!What is the proper attire for a woman to wear at a golf tournament and country club if she is not a player?I'd wear a hooters outfit if i were you!! You would distract the other players so your friend could win!!What is the proper attire for a woman to wear at a golf tournament and country club if she is not a player?Nice pants and a nice shirt would be fine. What is the proper attire for a woman to wear at a golf tournament and country club if she is not a player?
For a golf tournament, wear slacks and a top. Look in the golf gift shop to see what style of slacks and tops to wear... or look at a couple of websites given below to look for styles.
If you were going to the country club's dining room for a dinner it would be different, and more formal, but for the tournament spectators wear what the golfers wear!

How can I make a gas golf cart go faster?
Every summer we go camping and rent a gas golf cart but some are extremely slow while others are very fast. How can I make a slow one faster without adding or removing parts? Is there just some lever I can turn or something like that? How can I make a gas golf cart go faster? You can add high octane booster. Can buy it at any autoparts store or probably even Wal-Mart. Other than that, tell the person you are renting the cart from that you are a repeat customer and always seem to get the slow cart. Ask them to give you a faster, newer, or electric cart. You'd be surprised the things that would happen when people just ask...How can I make a gas golf cart go faster?in every golf cart built past a certain year, they have a little switch called a govenor. there is a way of sticking a tee or pin into that area to disable the speed reduction. me and my buddies have tried it once, BE CAREFUL ON DOWNHILLS!

Would anyone happen to know the name of a golf manufacturing type company in the roanoke, virginia area?
They also have a distribution center in the Los Angeles Area, if this helps at all. It is a company that holds a few golf brands and one brand that is not golf. It may also be outside of Roanoke, but still in Virginia. How much do the quality of clubs matter in golf?
I am looking to get into golf and i am wondering how much the clubs matter. I am looking to spend under 250 for a set of clubs but i do not know what to look for in golf clubs. Can someone please help me find good quality clubs for that priceHow much do the quality of clubs matter in golf? The clubs don't matter as much as your swing. If "fake" clubs seem to suite you, then play with them. If not, then don't. I would suggest that you buy Wilson Staff (Ci7) golf clubs. If you're a beginner, you might want to buy ones with a graphite shaft. Make sure tu buy regular clubs, so that they "allow more mistakes in you're swing".
I would recommend shoping at: golfonline.co.uk or at onlinegolf.co.uk
Hope it help you, :-)How much do the quality of clubs matter in golf?
Being naturally left handed is both a blessing and a curse. Depending on whom you ask and when you ask them, it may seem that being left handed is more curse than blessing. This is particularly true when a lefty is also a golfer and is looking for left handed golf club sets. The good news is that a quality set of left handed golf clubs isn鈥檛 difficult to find and with a little clever shopping, doesn鈥檛 have to cost a leftie his right arm.
The source link will enable you to get set of clubs under 250.
Most of the major golf club manufacturers such as Ping, Callaway Golf, Taylormade, and others, also make the exact same models in both right handed and left handed varieties. Of course, the demand for left handed clubs is significantly smaller than that for right handed clubs, so the numbers they actually produce will be less. This can sometimes result in certain left handed golf club sets being out of stock at your local sporting goods store. However, most times, the left handed club sets cost exactly the same as the right handed models.
Golf clubs can also be custom made. This service is either provided by a store specializing in custom made golf clubs or by a golf pro who provides this service as a sideline. Custom made golf club sets are a great option if you want a set of clubs that are perfectly fitted for you with respect to length, shaft flex, weight, loft, and materials.
Custom made left handed golf club sets are a particularly good option for left handed golfers. Just be prepared to spend quite a bit more for custom made clubs. This service doesn鈥檛 come cheap!
So what other options are available to left handed golfers who are in the market for left handed golf club sets? One source of golf clubs of all types is to seek out used club sets.
Every year thousands of people take up the game of golf with full intention of learning how to play and make golf a regular pastime. But then reality kicks in, and they either find out that golf is not an easy game to master or they never find the time to even get started. They then find themselves with a very nice set of golf clubs collecting dust out in the garage.
And do you think some of these failed golfers may just happen to also be left handed? That鈥檚 one thing you can count on! And best of all, after they get tired of those expensive clubs taking up valuable space in their garages or closets they are probably going to breakdown and put them up for sale at a mere fraction of their original retail price.
The great thing about most used left handed golf club sets is that many of them were either never played or were just very lightly played. This means that unless they were seriously abused, that they will be in almost new like condition. Just imagine expensive Ping and Callaway sets being virtually given away and left handed varieties to boot!
And you can find not only used men鈥檚 left handed club sets offered for sale, but also ladies and junior sets. The important thing to is to know exactly where to look for used left handed club sets and then knowing how to evaluate the condition of the clubs and assess their true value. Armed with this very important consumer knowledge you will be in the driver鈥檚 seat when it comes to snagging yourself a great deal on a used set of left handed golf clubs. How much do the quality of clubs matter in golf?adams is a great brand. Nothing is worse than your friends asking what your hitting and you say long bombs or mac attacks.(Something off brand) Give these A try, and I promise you'll fall in love with them. I actually see some adams RPM irons and they are also very nice and come 4-SW. about $150 new. Then go to a website like 3balls.com and pick out a driver. They have a very wide selection of left handed drivers. Pick something that says it is very forgiving and make sure to get regular shafts, not stiff. get something at about a 10.5 loft with an oversized head. $250 Is plenty of money for decent quality irons. If your looking for a whole set i urge you to reconsider, you wont get any bang for your buck. How much is it going to cost to reseal my VW Citi Golf?
I have a 2001 vw citi golf. The problem is that whenever it rains, it leaks. EVERYWHERE! The windscreen, the windows, the door panels, even by the lighter output. Can anybody give me an estimate as to hom much its going to cost to seal everything? How much is it going to cost to reseal my VW Citi Golf?2001 Citi Golf? Where do you live? In SA?
If you are in Cape Town, which I doubt cos it hasn't rained here for a while, then give me a shout.. But the windscreen is unlikely to be the main cause for the leak, although it could be a contributor.. I would want to see the car first so I would say get it to a good, reliable, honest mechanic. He should have it sealed in no time..
hedley.suckow@gmail.comHow much is it going to cost to reseal my VW Citi Golf?If your car is not a rebuilt wreck, you have terrible luck. I would go to a good glass shop and ask them to reseal the windshield. This should not cost more than $50. Unless you are using the car for a submarine, this should solve your problem.

What is a decent set of golf clubs to start out with?
Me and my fiance have been going to the driving range lately and we've really enjoyed learning how to swing. We're using a set of golf clubs a friend has loaned to us but we can't keep them so we're trying to determine what clubs to buy. Of course we're on a budget we really don't want to spend a whole lot on a set of clubs. I've been looking on ebay and I have found some around 100-200 dollars. What are some good name brands and models I should be looking for in my budget? Also is there a good suggestion for an easy driver to start out with? What is a decent set of golf clubs to start out with?Wilson or Ram,find out if you want to continue before paying more !!What is a decent set of golf clubs to start out with?
You are getting a lot of good ideas above. Some would say go to a golf shop and try to get a basic fitting. For example if you are over 6'3" you might need longer clubs than standard. If you have large hands you might benefit from bigger grips.
Downside to thrift shops is you might buy something and then find you need to regrip the whole set.
Another option if you want new I would look at the men's and women's Nickolaus sets that are avaialable at Costco. Use them, get better and then when it is time to replace it cause you two are heading for a handicap lower than 20, then go invest the money in a good fitting and upgrade.
Have Fun!!!!!!What is a decent set of golf clubs to start out with?I am a huge fan of Founders Club http://www.foundersclub.com/. They were very popular in the late 80's, early 90's. Then they kind of got bumped off by the big name-brand companies. They still make very good equipment. More importantly, especially for beginners and budget-conscious buyers, they are very affordable. In fact, I saw a couple sets of irons on eBay currently at auction. This brand is hard to find in stores, but http://www.edwinwattsgolf.com is a dealer.
I currently use a Founders driver and 3-wood. Every bit as good as the expensive clubs! Oh, and in case it helps, I have a handicap ranging from 5-10 (depends on how often I get to play) and have been golfing now for about 15 years.
Go to a club repair shop, local golf shop, or Second Swing and get a cheap cavity back set to save on shipping. Until you practice and get some feel it won't matter, but if you get old style blades you'll get great, yet frustrating feedback.
Callaway and Cleveland are nice drivers. What is a decent set of golf clubs to start out with?Wilson or MacGregor are good starting clubs. Actually, I still use my MacGregors that I've had since 1986. I just keep regripping them. What is a decent set of golf clubs to start out with?
nike ,calloway, cobra, adams, but there a lot of clones out there that are were good
Don't get me wrong but if your just starting out you will soon be hooked on golf. When it comes to golf money is no object for ALOT of people. I would recomend getting a used set. But if you can, try and get a fairly new Used set. The technology in clubs over the past 5 years has really taken off. If I had to recomend a great set I would say start with a 7 peice golf set with the hybrids. Adams Golf is a company that does this. The clubs are called Adams OS. You can find them on ebay for a good price. Then once you catch the bug you can go and spend more on Woods. EBAY is the key word here, will save you ALOT of Money.

Learning To Hit Shots Before Attempting To Learn To Play
I played golf a couple of days after Christmas in Rutland MA. The temperature was 38 degrees. A father was out playing with his high school age daughter who had never played before. Apparently, he had gotten her a new set of clubs for Christmas including a driver with a nice pink graphite shaft. Her clubs appeared to be an unfitted, inexpensive set of knockoffs. The father stood over the girl on each shot giving her a list of instructions. She was unable to make contact with the ball a good percentage of the time. Unfortunately, this scene gets repeated all over the golf world, except for the temperature. That had to make the experience even less fun. This type of experience is one of the reasons a lot of people think golf is hard.
In order for golf to be a lot easier you need to learn to hit shots before you attempt to play on the course and you鈥檙e not likely to be able to do that by getting instruction from someone who can barely hit the ball themselves. Even if the person instructing you can hit the ball that doesn鈥檛 mean they can teach you how to do it.
Learning to play golf can be likened to leaning to hunt. The first thing you need to do is learn how to shoot a gun. You wouldn鈥檛 think about going hunting if you hadn鈥檛 shot a gun before.
What you need to do is get fitted for a couple of clubs by a competent fitter/teacher. You don鈥檛 need a whole set of clubs to start, especially if they don鈥檛 fit. That would be like trying to learn how to run in a pair of shoes that didn鈥檛 fit. Learn from the hole back. By that I mean learn how to hit short distances before you attempt to hit full shots. You want to be able to go to the course paying attention to where you鈥檙e going to hit it. Not wondering whether you鈥檙e going to hit it or not and certainly not thinking about how you鈥檙e going to swing. Learn a few basics, grip, stance, and set-up. You can practice those things at home, in front of a mirror. It only takes a few minutes a day. You can hit 60 foot pitch shots in the back yard if you have room. You can also look into Almost Golf Balls and Short Flyte Golf balls. The Short Flyte Balls can actually be used indoors.
Bottom line-learn how to hit before you attempt to play. Golf will be a lot easier that way.
If you want a new set, Northwestern has always made a good set at a reasonable price. They make a good set to start out with. Dunlop also makes inexpensive clubs, but their starter sets are a bit more money.
You could also go used. Thrift Shops like Salvation Army and Goodwill usually have name brand clubs for $2-$5 each and sometimes full bags for $29 or so.
Check out pine meadows a friend of mine uses them and I am impressed with them.
